WORK to decommission a crane which formed part of Greenock’s skyline for decades is nearing completion.
Crews started dismantling the structure at Ocean Terminal last week.
They took the middle section of the crane off this afternoon, hoisting it into the air using a specialist crane and then gently lowering it to the ground.
The decommissioned crane is to be replaced with a short term ‘multi-docker’.
The remaining two cranes at the terminal will also be decommissioned.
Last year, it was announced that two cranes were being bought for the terminal for a sum of almost £20m in the biggest ever investment in its history.
