A PRISONER accused of four years of transphobic and homophobic abuse and violent threats while locked up in Greenock jail's all-female unit has had a court trial delayed.

Jane Sutherley is charged with repeatedly uttering offensive, transphobic, homophobic, and sexual remarks within HMP Greenock's Darroch Hall - which houses a mix of short-term convicted women and those on remand.

The 50-year-old, whose accommodation is now listed as HMP Edinburgh, is also said to have made threats of violence, enticed others to utter offensive remarks and made spurious complaints between January 2019 and March last year.

The alleged offences were aggravated by involving prejudice relating to transphobic identity, according to court papers.

Sutherley denies the charge and a summary trial at Greenock Sheriff Court has been adjourned until June 17.
