A CELTIC-supporting young Greenock footballer is celebrating today - after signing for Rangers.

Skilful Karmyn Lapsley, 12, is bridging the Old Firm divide by putting pen to paper for the Ibrox club's girls team.

The talented young player was spotted by Rangers scouts earlier this year when she was playing for Port Glasgow Juniors.

Karmyn is now due to pull on the light blue jersey play her first official match for Rangers when the new season kicks off in August.

The Notre Dame High School pupil says she's thrilled to have signed for the club, and says she's looking forward to the challenge.

Karmyn added: "I'm really happy.

"It will be great to play alongside people who are as good as me.

"It makes it easier and it's a lot more fun."

Karmyn started out with Mini Morton when she was a tot and signed for Port Glasgow Juniors around four years ago.

She was also with Celtic Elite Girls for a year.

Greenock Telegraph:
In February, Ross Gibson from Rangers' Soccer Academy contacted Karmyn's mum Vicki to ask if he could come to Inverclyde to watch the youngster play.

Ross invited Karmyn to Rangers trials after she impressed him with her skills on the Port pitch, and just weeks later, she signed for the club.

Once the season kicks off, Karmyn will train with the under 13s on a Tuesday, and with the under 15s squad on a Wednesday and a Thursday.

The young sports star said she's known for years that she loved the sport and wanted to develop her skills.

Greenock Telegraph:
Her football hero is Cristiano Ronaldo, and her favourite Celtic player is Callum McGregor.

Karmyn said she can't wait to get started training with Rangers in August.

She added: "I like to dribble, that's my favourite thing to do.

"I played on the left wing for Port Glasgow Juniors and it looks like I will be on the right wing for Rangers.

"My friends are all really happy for me and can't wait to hear all about it."

Karmyn's parents Vicki and John say they're 'very, very proud' of their dedicated daughter.

Vicki, 49, said: "She's done really well and is so committed to football.

"She's always got a ball at her feet and loves showing off all her fancy moves.

"We're all really excited and can't wait to see how it all goes."
