BAGS have been packed for Gourock’s famous ‘Girl on a Suitcase’ statue — as she is heading off on her holidays.
The figure, also known as ‘wee Annie’, will temporarily make way while a £5.2 million town centre redevelopment project continues nearby.
The statue, located at the start of Kempock Street, will be put into storage and returned at a later date.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s regeneration vice-convener, said: “The wee Annie statue has become a feature of the pierhead area at Gourock. She’ll be going on a short holiday but will soon have pride of place back as part of the £5.2m regeneration of the area.
“The work at Gourock is moving on apace and it is fantastic to see the progress and to picture the difference this investment will make to the area.” In addition to the wee Annie statue, memorial benches placed at the location will also be kept in safe storage and put back once work is completed.
