A MURDER accused sixth man to be arrested in connection with the death of dad Neil Canney in Larkfield has today been locked up after appearing at Greenock Sheriff Court.

Kieran Hendry, 24, was arrested on Wednesday after armed police swooped at addresses in Branchton and Larkfield.

Hendry is charged with discharging a firearm, shooting Mr Canney in the head and murdering him – while acting with others.

He made no plea through solicitor Amy Spencer during his petition hearing in private this afternoon.

The other accused in the case are Brendan Balloch, 23, Kieran Meechan, 27, Jack Benson, 22, Dale Russell, 28, and Martin McCusker, 38.

Meechan, formerly of Wellington Street in Greenock, Benson, of Crawford Street, Port Glasgow, Balloch, of Cockrobin Drive in Greenock, Russell, of Glasgow Road, Wishaw and McCusker, also of Wishaw, made no plea and have all been fully committed for trial after appearing previously at the sheriff court on the same murder charge as Hendry.

Mr Canney was found seriously wounded at around 1.15am on February 28 at his home on Nairn Road.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival there.

No-one else within the Nairn Road house was hurt.

The case against Hendry has been continued for further examination by Sheriff Michael Higgins.

He is due to return to court again next week.
