TEACHERS from Port Glasgow High School have praised pupils after they put on stellar performances at this year’s Inverclyde Musical Festival.

A number of youngsters from the school took part in the event, competing across a range of instruments.

The pupils won a total of 11 first place prizes, as well as finishing runner-up in another 15 categories.

Five young musicians also took home trophies from the festival.

Singers Cameron Steele, Daniel Arthur and Caden Arthur each won trophies for their solos.

Emily Hathaway clinched the Alasdair Rankin Trophy for her performance on drum kit.

Thomas Williams received the Musicians Union Shield for best junior performer, as well as the Jean Rennie Trophy for most promising string player.

Teacher Julie Ballantyne said: “Last year was a bumper year as well so we’ve kept up the standard.

“We were really pleased with everybody.

“A lot of the pieces really pushed them, they did really well.”
