WORKS to breathe new life into an iconic clock tower in Greenock are expected to be completed in the early part of next month.

The B-listed Custom House Quay clock tower is undergoing a significant makeover at a cost of in the region of £110,000.

The works include restoring the pedestal, column clock, bell, light and finial, as well as decorative paint treatment.

It’s understood the project should be finished in May, having started at the end of February.

The historic clock was built around 1860, designed by William Clark and made for Greenock Harbour Trust.

It is located outside the Custom House, which was built in 1818 on what was then known as Steamboat Quay, one of the first docking areas of Greenock.
