A PORT Glasgow woman is charged with mistreating a pet dog that was found 'saturated in urine and excrement' at her home, according to prosecutors.

It is claimed that Tracy Singh caused the protected animal unnecessary suffering by an act or omission between June and July last year at her property on Pladda Avenue.

The first of two Crown charges alleges that Singh, 46, failed to provide the dog with adequate nutrition in order to sustain a healthy body condition, failed to provide a safe and sanitary living environment, failed to provide necessary grooming and failed to provide veterinary care.

It is also alleged that Singh exposed the animal to a build-up of household waste hazards, including a crate that was full of faeces and urine, which caused the dog to become 'saturated in urine and excrement'.

The charge adds that the pet was not provided with adequate space, a comfortable sanitary resting area or adequate nutrition, all 'likely to cause physical and mental suffering'.

Singh pleaded not guilty through solicitor Gerry Keenan during a hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

The case has been continued to a trial on May 20.
