A TALENTED French student living in Inverclyde is helping people across Greenock learn that baking is a piece of cake.

Aggie Wolck, 29, is running traditional French bakery classes for free at Branchton Community Centre.

The skilful baker moved to Inverclyde just last year and is already showing she's a smart cookie by running the fun classes.

Aggie has been teaching people bakery skills and techniques every Thursday evening since February, and says she's had great feedback from her students.

She added: "People seem to be really enjoying it as they keep coming back!

"We have good chats.

"I send the recipe out to people so they can try them at home.

"There are people of all ages in the class and everyone is really nice."

Some of the brilliant bakery items Aggie and her students have been making so far include choux pastry and eclairs, madeleines, melted chocolate cake, chocolate pudding cake, and apple cake.

She has also prepared items made famous by other countries of the world, including banana bread, and key lime pie.

Greenock Telegraph:
Aggie has been working and training since she was 16.

She completed apprenticeship schemes in France where she worked and studied bakery at the same time.

After gaining her bakery diploma, she had a job in a bakery for four years before she decided to move to the UK in August 2020.

Since arriving in the UK, Aggie has worked as an au pair, a governess, and a nanny.

After she had been employed for three years, she started applying for different courses all over the UK.

Aggie was delighted to be accepted as a student at West College Scotland and is currently working towards a National 5 qualification in health and social care.

Soon after she moved to Greenock in August last year, she popped into Branchton to meet everyone and told them she worked as a baker in France.

Aggie was delighted when Branchton's Willie Wilson and the team gave her the chance to start running the free classes.

The talented baker grew up in a tiny village in France called Chavigny which she says is very different to Greenock.

Aggie said: "Moving to Inverclyde was never in my plan but I am really enjoying it here.

"It's very different to where I was brought up as everyone knew everyone in Chavigny and Greenock is so much bigger.

"I love going to Lunderston Bay and finding out more about the area."

Aggie hopes to continue running the classes and wants to give more people the opportunity to learn more about baking.

She said: "My students have been telling me that they will really miss the classes when they come to an end.

"I want to give as many people as possible the chance to learn.

"I really love teaching baking.

"There's no pressure and it's a lot of fun.

"I love passing on my knowledge and seeing people enjoying themselves."
