ONE of Inverclyde's largest employers has teamed up with an SNP politician to help youngsters across Inverclyde learn more about equality.

Cigna Insurance joined forces with Stuart McMillan MSP to ensure pupils in primary schools have access to Nil By Mouth's 'Neeps And Tatties' project.

The book uses storytelling and the Scots language to help children explore things that make us different, and discuss their own culture and beliefs in a positive way.

Cigna donated 'Neeps And Tatties' books to every school across Inverclyde.

Mr McMillan visited Moorfoot Primary in Gourock to deliver them to children and staff and show his support for the project.

Written entirely in Scots, and created by author Carey Morning and illustrator Anna York, 'Neeps and Tatties' tells the story of two warring vegetable tribes who put the past behind them.

The book examines issues including discrimination and prejudice, and includes a series of classroom games and activities which explore different cultures.

Mr McMillan thanked Cigna for providing youngsters across Inverclyde with copies of the book.

He added: "It's important that we have conversations with children and young people about our differences, and learn to see them as traits to be celebrated rather than things to divide us.

"Instilling that morality from a young age will make society a better place for generations to come."
