INVERCLYDE Council has confirmed a section of ‘unsafe and unsightly’ waterside fencing in Gourock is to be repaired by the end of this week.

The state of the fencing, between Gourock railway station and Kempock Street, had been raised at a meeting of the town’s community council.

Robert Kirkpatrick, the SNP's candidate in Gourock’s upcoming by-election, told the Telegraph the fence had been broken ‘for a number of months’.

He added: “This is not a massive or expensive job to undertake, but the fact it has been left for so long is both unsafe and unsightly.

“It also helps to feed the increasing concerns of many locals who believe Gourock is being forgotten about in contrast to other parts of Inverclyde.

“I have spoken to hundreds of people during this campaign and the feeling of frustration with regards to the lack of investment in Gourock is clear.

“Gourock is once again becoming Inverclyde’s forgotten town and as a local resident and candidate, I will promote a pro-Gourock agenda if elected on November 7.

“I live in the ward, unlike some other candidates, and I want to ensure Gourock gets its fair share of investment.”

A spokesperson for Inverclyde Council said: “We are aware of this issue.

“Our contractor has had issues sourcing the correct parts for this repair.

“The work is now planned for completion this week.”
