GOUROCK’S Post Office is to reopen today — and a fresh pledge has been given that it will stay that way.

Inverclyde MP Iain McKenzie raised the recent closure with the Post Office’s ‘stakeholder manager’ for Scotland, Linda Bonar, who apologised for the inconvenience.

The MP said that he was extremely unhappy about the disruption to the service but has been told the problem was outwith the Post Office’s control.

He said: “The Post Office have assured me services will commence today in the usual premises and, if any future changes have to be made, then I will be notified so that my constituents can have an input to any changes proposed.

“If any changes are planned to provision of Post Office services in Gourock, then a full consultation should take place with their customers. I have been assured this will happen.” A spokeswoman for the Post Office Ltd told the Tele: “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers by the unexpected and unplanned temporary closure of Gourock Post Office, this was due to unforeseen circumstances which were out with our control.

“Our field team have been working hard to have the branch reopened and re-establish a service as a matter of urgency and have confirmed that the service will resume on Wednesday 5 November.

“We realise how important this service is to the community and I can assure you that Post Office Ltd is fully committed in providing access to Postal Services to our customers within Gourock and that we will do all in our power to ensure continuity of service both now and into the future.”
