FOOTBALL players in Greenock are celebrating a ‘goal-den’ moment as two busy five-a-side pitches undergo a £70,000 revamp.
Work has started to upgrade the two outdoor 3G pitches at Lady Octavia Sports Centre in the east end.
David McCorkindale, head of leisure and community facilities at Inverclyde Leisure, believes the new 4G pitches will prove popular.
He said: “As part of Inverclyde Council’s parks and pitches strategy, Lady Octavia Sports Centre’s two five-a-side 3G pitches are undergoing replacement and upgrade.
“This includes state of the art 4G surface being laid and repairs to the fencing.
“Inverclyde Leisure anticipates having the pitches available within two to three weeks for customers.
“This will ensure our footballers are playing on the best possible surface.”
David says IL are grateful to Inverclyde Council for funding the facelift.
He added: “It’s great to see this kind of investment in Inverclyde Leisure facilities.
“This five-a-side pitch is very well used.”
Stewart Burns, the centre manager at Lady Octavia, added: “The upgrade is a massive boost and bonus to the centre and the surrounding community, we are very appreciative of the joint partnership we have with Inverclyde Council that enables us to enhance these football pitches.
“Myself and the team here are excited to welcome back our loyal customers once the installation is complete and we’re sure they’ll love playing on the new state of the art surface.
“These new surfaces are the only outdoor five-a-side pitches in Inverclyde so we hope that it will bring back some of our old customers as well as new ones too.”
