A POST Office in Larkfield is to be relocated under modernisation plans which will make way for extended opening hours and improved services.

The proposal would see the branch move from its current location at 43 Angus Road, approximately 120 metres away to Costcutters at 5 Nairn Road - just around the corner.

But the move will also mean customers can take advantage of an extra 37 and a half hours a week opening times.

Post Office bosses have now launched a six-week public consultation to give customers a chance to air their views about the plans.

The idea behind the move is to create a modern open-plan 'local' branch with significantly extended opening hours. Sue Richardson, Post Office regional network manager for Scotland and northern England, said: "We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in this part of Greenock and we are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future."

Opening hours at the proposed new Nairn Road location will be Monday to Thursday from 8am to 8pm plus Friday and Saturday from 8am to 10pm.

There would also be Sunday opening hours between 12.30 and 8pm.

Ms Richardson added: "The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6,000 branches - about half the Post Office network - converting to new-style branches.

"The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes."

During the public consultation Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposals.

The consultation will close on Wednesday 15 May.
