A PAIR of Port Glasgow brothers got more than they bargained for when a visit to the shops turned into a scramble for free food and groceries thanks to Snappy Shopper.

John and David Lindsay, both 44, took part in a basket dash challenge at the Sam’s Superstore - Premier in Port Glasgow and saved hundreds of pounds on their weekly shop.

The pair were given 60 seconds to fill a basket with anything they could get their hands on, with delivery app service Snappy Shopper covering the costs of all of the items.

Snappy Shopper representative Ian Barclay urged the duo on as they made their way through the shop and grabbed as many items as they could.

Sam’s Superstore is one of many outlets on Snappy Shopper, which allows people to order groceries to be delivered to their homes.

John had initially nominated his brother to take part in the dash, but when a second slot became available, he also stepped up and took on the challenge.

He said: “I put my brother forward because he was going through a wee bit of a tough time and he needed a boost.

“I got the phone call a few days ago and I was chuffed to bits.

“It was great fun, I’m really happy with what we’ve picked up.

“Toiletries and things like coffee can be a real expense nowadays, £8 a tub sometimes. It’s great to grab this stuff, it’ll save me loads of money in the long run.”

John revealed to the Telegraph that he had put plenty of preparation into his dash to make sure he got the most out of the deal.

He added: “I came into the shop this morning to see where everything was and work out my tactics, so I knew what I was getting and what I needed in the house.”

Unlike his brother’s meticulously planned attempt, David took a more relaxed approach to his dash.

He said: “I was just out my bed, coffee was the first thing on my mind!

“I grabbed that and then it was all random from there.

“I’m over the moon with what I got, I must’ve saved about a hundred quid easily.”

Shop owner Asim Manzoor said: “It was very exciting.

“It’s all good fun, the customers enjoy it and it was really good for them.

“We had a brilliant time today.”
