SATURDAY'S deserved win against Airdrie not only continues our magnificent unbeaten record but also allowed Dougie Imrie’s team to surpass the unbeaten run of Benny Rooney’s superb side from way back around 1979/80.

To even be mentioned in the same breath as Morton’s best manager in my lifetime shows the magnitude of the job Dougie has done in completely turning the team around when he first came into the job, and turning our fortunes around after a poor start to this season.

The 1979/80 team was probably the best Morton team I have ever seen and as a young boy I was fortunate enough to attend every one of that season’s games.

But it would be unfair to compare either the managers or the teams.

One thing for sure in my opinion would be that if we could mix the old and the new players we would have a team that would challenge with the best we currently have in Scotland’s Premier League!

We now move onto this evening's game and hopefully we have all our players fit as it looked like the walking wounded on Saturday after an extremely physical Airdrie side left their mark on the current squad of players.
