MORTON winger Jim McAlister has broken a metatarsal in his foot and will be out for the rest of the season.
McAlister, above, has been playing despite a stress fracture for a number of weeks.
It had been hoped he would last until the end of the campaign, but the injury has now become too severe to continue.
Allan McManus, the Morton assistant boss, said: "Jim's got a fractured metatarsal. So, unfortunately, that will be him out for the rest of the season.
"He's been carrying a stress fracture for a while and, all credit to the boy, he's been playing.
"But it's opened up now, so there's no point in him even trying.
"He's done really well for us recently but these things happen in football. It gives someone else a chance to come into that position."
