The 2010/11 season kicked off in glorious sunshine but the action failed to live up to the weather as Morton struggled to break down stuffy Stirling at Cappielow.
Binos manager John O'Neill set up his side in a defensive 4-5-1 formation, while Allan Moore stuck with his trademark 4-4-2.
He made two changes to the starting 11 that won so convincingly at Stranraer the previous week, replacing Allan Jenkins and Carlo Monti with Fouad Bachirou and David O'Brien.
The match got off to a tentative start and it took until the eighth minute for either side to create a chance of note when Michael Tidser dragged a shot across the face of goal after Stewart Kean had laid the ball into his path 25 yards out.
Tidser met an O'Brien cross with a volley three minutes later as Ton started to command proceedings, but he failed to control the effort and his shot crashed harmlessly into the advertising boards at the Sinclair Street end.
In the 26th minute, former Morton midfielder Chris Aitken flew into David MacGregor with a late tackle that rightly earned him a caution from referee Charlie Richmond.
MacGregor received treatment but failed to shake off the injury and was replaced by Stuart McCaffrey six minutes later.
Early indications are that MacGregor has strained ligaments and could be out of action for a considerable time.
Stirling's only shot on target arrived one minute before MacGregor's withdrawal when Nathan Taggart cut in from the left wing before firing a tame shot straight at Colin Stewart, who dived forward to catch.
However, the Ton started to turn the screw towards the end of the half and almost opened the scoring three times in the space of a minute.
It was the 36th minute when Weatherson unleashed a piledriver from the edge of the box but Scott Christie batted the ball away with an unorthodox save and the rebound fell to Stewart Kean, who scuffed a shot across the face of goal from an acute angle.
Then, barely 30 seconds later, Tidser strode forward from midfield and let fly with a stunning strike that whistled inches past Christie's right-hand post and the half finished level.
Morton started the second half brightly and Tidser burst into the opposition box and flicked a shot at goal with his right foot but Christie threw out an arm to tip the effort around the post for a corner.
On the hour mark, Tidser and Bachirou combined to present Weatherson with a chance but he pulled his shot wide of goal.
Tidser then volleyed over the crossbar and Kevin McKinlay had a header from a Tidser corner caught on the line before the game descended into a kicking match as tempers frayed in the final 20 minutes.
Ross Forsyth, Ryan Borris, Scott Robertson, Tidser and Monti followed Aitken and McCaffrey into Richmond's notebook in a meaty end to the match.
With 15 minutes left, Moore put Jenkins on for McKinlay and went to a 3-5-2 formation to try and force a goal.
The forward runs of Jenkins added an extra dimension to Morton's attacks but the match ended goalless.
