DAVID MacGregor apologised to his Morton team-mates in the dressing room following his sending off in Ton's Scottish Cup win over Dumbarton on Saturday - but he still insists it was a harsh decision.
The defender received two bookings within six minutes to leave his side a man down for the closing stages of a match in which Ton had to come from behind to edge 2-1 ahead.
It was only the second red card MacGregor has received in his career - the first coming seven years ago in a league cup defeat to Airdrie United - a record the 29-year-old is proud of.
MacGregor told the Tele: "I'm very disappointed to be sent off. I thought it was a harsh decision, but it was more that you feel you let the club, the manager and the rest of the boys down.
"I apologised to the boys in the dressing room. I said sorry for putting them in it for the last ten minutes but the team got through to the next round and that was the objective.
"When I went off it was only 2-1 and I felt I had left them in the lurch a wee bit, so it was more that than a personal disappointment.
"That's my second sending off. As a defender you are always going to be involved in challenges but I always try to be disciplined and try and not make any rash tackles.
"I thought especially with the second one that I definitely got the ball, so in that respect I was a bit shocked to get the second yellow. For the first one, the boy has just ran into me and it could have gone either way." The dismissal will see MacGregor suspended for the next round of the Scottish Cup - with the Cappielow side drawn at home to either Airdrie United or Beith at Hampden yesterday.
MacGregor is free to play in this weekend's league clash with Falkirk though, and the Ton veteran is relieved he will be available for that match.
He said: "With the two bookings it's definitely just the next round of the cup rather than the league. Hopefully I'll be in contention for Saturday."
