NEW Morton striker Nacho Novo says he now has eyes for one club only after penning a short-term contract at Cappielow.
As recently as Monday, the former Rangers frontman was lamenting the fact Ibrox boss Ally McCoist failed to offer him an opportunity to return to his old stomping ground.
But after signing a deal that will tie him to the Ton until 12 January, the grateful 34-year-old insists he is focused on doing well for Allan Moore’s men and no longer looking back.
He said: “I’m very pleased with this move and I obviously have to say thanks as well to the chairman and manager here at Morton for giving me this opportunity. It’s a nice club with a lot of history. I’m quite happy just to be part of it and at the same time I want to do well for this club.
“When I was at Kilmarnock, for example, they were keen to take me but obviously they have a big squad so it was difficult.
“Over the last few months Ally [McCoist] had been talking, saying that he was going to take me, using the media to say things that then never happened.
“I was disappointed with that. When you’ve been with someone a long time you just want them to come out and say ‘yes’, ‘no’ or whatever.
“I had lots of offers away from here, like in Greece, but I wanted to stay here and play in Scotland.
“But if it’s not happening, it’s not happening. It has made me even stronger. I have to think positive; I have always been a fighter and the good thing is that I love playing football.
“I still have the same passion for the game that I had when I was 16. Now, this is a new start with Greenock Morton and I’m quite delighted with that.
“I’m definitely going to give everything to make sure that everything goes well here with this club.
“I don’t have any more time for Ally; I am just looking forward now to playing and giving everything I have to Greenock Morton and try and do my best here.
“I will do my best for the club and the fans. The best thing to do well with the fans is to do well yourself and to help the team win games. That’s the main thing. My mind is on trying to do well for the supporters to try and thank them for the welcome to the club.” Novo has been without a side the summer.
He admits he will lack match sharpness but insists he has worked to maintain his fitness and feels ready to make an impact at Ton.
He added: “It has been a while since I last played. It was with Huesca but I played a bounce game with Kilmarnock when I was training there.
“So I will have to improve my match fitness, but I have been training myself and look after myself so that is a good thing for me. At this moment in time, I have just signed until January. I’m going to try my best to do well and demonstrate to people, and myself, that I’ve still got it.
“I’ve never played at Cappielow before but I went down to see the stadium. It has a nice park and the stadium has a lot of history.
“I know the area well. In my time at Rangers I used to live near Inverkip and I love this part of Scotland.
“Inverkip, Wemyss Bay and around there is quite beautiful. Where I come from in Spain is quite similar. I can’t wait to get started here.”
