The 19-year-old youth academy graduate, who returned to first-team action at Raith Rovers on Saturday after seven weeks out injured, has around seven months left on his current deal.
Russell recently rejected an extension but insists he is enjoying his football at Cappielow and remains keen to put pen to paper on a new contract.
The 2014-15 SPFL League One Team of the Year member told the Tele: “The club made me an offer about three or four weeks but it’s still a wee bit off what I’m looking for.
“I’m happy at Morton and if I got the right offer I would accept it quite happily, so I’m just playing it by ear at the moment.” Meanwhile, Morton loan defender Luca Gasparotto played 90 minutes as Canada Under-23s booked their place in the semi-finals of CONCACAF Olympic qualifying with a 2-2 draw with Cuba.
The Canucks finished as runners-up to the USA in Group A and now face Mexico or Honduras in Saturday’s semi-final, ruling Gasparotto out of Morton’s match at Queen of the South.
