MORTON midfielder Cameron Blues is adamant that they can end the season on a high by ensuring a fifth-place finish in the Championship.

The 26-year-old is coming towards the end of a two-year deal he penned in the summer of 2022.

But he insists that all thoughts of his own future have been put to one side as he wants to help his team end an up and down campaign by getting a result against Inverness tomorrow night which ensures they stay in the top half of the Championship.

He told the Tele: "I've been trying to take things a game at a time because I believe if you think about stuff off the pitch then you'd begin to affect what happens on it, which wouldn't be good.

"The challenge to individuals who are in a position of being out of contract, like myself, is to just go and play every game as they normally would.

"You've got to have the right attitude and the right mentality heading into every game, no matter who you are playing."

A whole host of players' deals are about to expire and boss Dougie Imrie recently indicated that there could be changes coming on Sinclair Street this summer. But Blues doesn't see this as the end of the road for the current squad.

He said: "I don't think we're coming to an end of a cycle at the club. I think if we can finish off strongly with a win then the season will have a bit of a better feel about it.

"It'd be good to finish the season with a victory. The message has been to take the final three fixtures game by game.

"We've wanted to put a good run together to finish the season, and set a challenge for ourselves. It would mean that we can finish fifth again which would be good for the club."

Blues has been backed several times by Ton boss Imrie as a player who could make the step up to the Premiership after becoming a mainstay in the Cappielow engine room.

The former Falkirk kid has since played a number of positions and added versatility to his game this season, his fifth with Morton.

Blues told the Tele: "I never knew that the manager had said anything like that, but as far as I'm concerned I'll just do the best I can for the boys on the park and for him.

"It's nice to hear that the manager has that kind of confidence in me but for now, my focus is on finishing the season strongly with a win.

"I'll just continue to do my best and hopefully we can finish off with a strong result."
