Album of the week: Type O Negative - Dead Again
DEAD Again is the seventh and final studio album by the American gothic metal band Type O Negative, subsequent dissolution of the band.
It was originally released on March 13, 2007. If every Type O album provided a snapshot of the singer’s state of mind at the time – and the people closest to him agree that they did – then Steele was in serious trouble at this point.
After releasing what was arguably their most lyrically disheartening and musically melancholic music to date in Life is Killing Me, Dead Again sees Type O Negative flip the coin over and take a slightly different approach, writing and recording their most optimistic and positive sounding album that screams of hope and anticipation of better days to come in this unpredictable life we all lead.
The thing is, there was a reason most Type O Negative tracks sounded similar. Peter Steele's dour, deep voice – especially when combined with Kenny Hickey's bassy, thick and instantly recognizable guitar tone – lent itself to slow, gothic metal.
Lighthearted moments cropped up from time to time but on 'Dead Again' the upbeat tracks are more common and less funny.
All told, 'Dead Again' is an ambitious, 10-track, 77-minute undertaking that confidently asserts Type O Negative's versatility.
This re-issue is available from today, Friday July 12. The Greenock record fair will run today and tomorrow in the Oak Mall.

THIS week we have Thomas Campbell of local indie Rock n Roll band, The Social.
Though Tommy will be joining us solo for this performance, the band usually consists of lead vocals Tommy Campbell, lead guitarist Scott Morisson, bassist Davie Shaw and drummer Bryan Power.
Their debut album called Anti-Social was release in August of 2019. Their latest offering is the ‘The Red’ EP, which came out in April of 2022, both releases are available on all streaming platforms.
The band have played gigs all over Central Scotland, with several festival appearances including Mill port and Doon the Watter in Dunoon.
They’ve played the same stages as house hold names such as Tom Hingly from The Inspiral Carpets and Neville Staple from The Specials.
The band are now currently busying themselves in the Studio, recording their long overdue and eagerly anticipated second album.
