A MAN has been accused of embezzling almost £200,000 from a Greenock post office.
Sabjit Benning, 39, is alleged to have taken the cash from the Corlic Street Post Office in Greenock's east end.
It is alleged that, while he was sub postmaster, he embezzled £194,969 from the post office.
The alleged fraud is said to have taken place between 15 January and 8 August 2007.
Benning, represented by solicitor Aidan Gallagher, appeared in private at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday.
He made no plea or declaration during the brief appearance at court.
Sheriff John Herald continued the case for further examination.
Benning, of Hillside, Bogstonhill Road in Houston, was released on bail to appear again at a later date.
A Post Office Ltd spokeswoman said: "Post Office Ltd does not comment on individual court cases."
