FAMOUS Greenock son and TV sitcom star Richard Wilson will officially open the town's revamped South West Library later this month.
The broadcaster and actor - best known for his role as Victor Meldrew in BBC's One Foot in the Grave - will do the honours as the library enters an exciting new chapter in its life.
Fans will be able to go along to the event on Thursday 22 November from 3.30pm.
Richard's return to Greenock will be the first in a week of events, talks and celebrity visits to Inverclyde as part of the Scottish Book Trust's national Book Week Scotland celebration.
The packed programme will also see acclaimed crime writer Christopher Brookmyre visit Central Library in Greenock on 26 November at 6.30pm, followed by celebrated children's author John Fardell appearing at the South West Library the following day from 4pm.
The week concludes with An Evening with Cargo Publishing at Port Glasgow Library at 6.30pm on 29 November, featuring authors Ewan Morrison, Alan Bissett and Doug Johnstone.
All of the Book Week Scotland events are free, with tickets available from libraries across Inverclyde.
Councillor Terry Loughran, convener of the education committee, said: "With a packed programme featuring a host of well-known authors, there really is something for people of all ages and interests.
"I would encourage everyone to get involved and go along to the events taking place."
