TWO hundred local people will take part in a breathtaking five-night acrobatic show celebrating this year’s Commonwealth Games.

Volunteers are being sought to work alongside professional trapeze artists on ‘White Gold’, which will transform Greenock’s Sugar Sheds in June.

Those with a head for heights can grab the chance to dangle from the roof on special ‘silks’ and master acrobatic skills to wow an expected sell-out audience.

People who prefer to keep their feet on the ground have the chance to become crew members for the memorable free-entry performances.

The project is led by arts organisation Iron Oxide in partnership with the Beacon Arts Centre.

It’s put together by Mark Murphy and includes Cuerda Producciones from Argentina, All or Nothing Aerial and DJs/musicians Tigerstyle.

The production needs a total of 200 volunteers from Greenock and the surrounding area to make it happen.

Spokesperson Teri Laing said: “Bringing personal stories to life through music, drama and breathtaking aerial performance, White Gold will give the community of Greenock top billing as the nation’s stars.” Those interested in getting involved can hang, climb, swing and suspend their way through a free aerial skills taster session at the Beacon.

Each session will include a chance to try out rope and material trapeze, climbs, wraps and tricks.

Cast members, assistant stage managers, runners, lighting design crew, site crew and stage crew are also required. The positions are open to anyone aged 16 and over and there are a number of roles available.

Participants can choose from sessions on 3 February (7.15 to 8.45pm), 4 March (5.30 to 7pm) and 5 April (11am to 12.30pm).
