CHILDREN at a Greenock primary school will be able to enjoy more books than ever — just in time for Christmas!
Youngsters at Lady Alice have received 25 Kindle reading devices from the team at Amazon in Gourock.
The school was also surprised with a £2,000 gift card to buy e-books during a special assembly attended by members of the Amazon team.
It’s all part of Amazon’s Kindle Reading Fund, a programme that sees company employees nominate a school to receive literary support.
Lady Alice was suggested by Amazonian Colin Kepler, whose eight-year-old daughter Jayla is a pupil.
Colin said: “Lady Alice does a great job of increasing the literary skills of our young people, and this donation will help even more local kids to enjoy books of all genres.
“It’s great that Amazon is able to provide this support to the school, and I know the donation will be really welcomed.”
Jayla said: “I love going to the library, and reading on a Kindle will make it even more fun. I’m really happy we’ll be downloading new books, and all of my friends are excited too!”
Amazon general manager Gavin Morrison said: “The staff at Lady Alice do a fantastic job in encouraging more reading among the young people in our community, and we hope this donation helps the pupils experience new books while enjoying some old classics.
“The joy of reading is something we’re incredibly passionate about at Amazon, and we’re keen to help local children broaden their literary horizons with this donation.”
Head teacher, Mrs Gail Connick, added: “It’s our mission to encourage pupils to read – not only for the educational benefits, but also in the context of feeding their imaginations and creativity.
“The gift card and Kindle devices will be a really valuable resource at our school, and we’re over the moon to receive such great support from the local Amazon team.”
