AN INVERCLYDE primary school is one of a select band of nine across Scotland to be given a writer-in-residence to help inspire a lifelong love of reading and writing.
All Saints Primary was picked to receive an author residency from Scottish Book Trust and author Juliette Forrest will work with the school on a creative project.
Juliette is an art director and copywriter, who with the help of mentor Julie Bertagna has completed her first children’s novel, Twister, which was released in February this year.
She says she is very excited about meeting the children and get started.
Juliette said: “A huge thank-you to Scottish Book Trust and All Saints Primary.
"This is an opportunity I'm pinching myself over - one I’ve always dreamed of.
“I cannot wait to meet everyone at the school and I am looking forward to us working together to ensure our project is an exciting, inspiring and rewarding experience for all.”
The residency will run across the 2018/19 school year and in addition to this the school will receive a resources grant of £500.
Schools across the country were invited to apply to the programme, which enables professional authors to build a relationship with pupils and engage them in a project.
The school’s project will be showcased on the Scottish Book Trust website and Lorraine Fisher, head teacher, can't wait to get started.
She said: “Being part of the Live Literature School Residency is inspiring and thought-provoking.
“Our pupils are already motivated to learn about our author Juliette and create pieces of writing with her.
"They are working collaboratively to plan their next steps in writing, which she can support them with.”
