TWO yachts caught fire in Inverkip Marina in the early hours of this morning sparking a major incident and main road closure.
Five fire engines, including crews from Greenock, rushed to the scene at around 1.45am to tackle the blaze.
The A78 had to be closed in both directions, with traffic diverted through the village Main Street.
It opened around 11am.
A Scottish Fire & Rescue spokeswoman said: "Scottish fire were sent to reports that boats were on fire in the Inverkip Marina. Operations control mobilised five fire engine to tackle the flames.
"There were no casualties."
Both boats involved were aground and on dry land in the marina.
Firefighters used an aerial platform set up on the main road to deal with the incident.
Police Scotland said: “Around 1.50am on Sunday 10 February 2019, police were called to a report of two boats on fire at Kip Marina, Inverkip.
“Emergency services attended and two boats were found to be significantly damaged, with further damage to a third boat.
“A joint investigation between police and fire services is ongoing, however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.”
