PLAYERS let the good times roll at the annual open night at Gourock Bowling Club.

An electric atmosphere spread through the club as the gents section enjoyed one of their best open evenings in years.

The evening got off to a flying start when President James Madden’s partner, Morag, had the honour of delivering the first jack and bowls in front of 80 members and guests including Provost Martin Brennan.

Following this, the green sprung to life as the players enjoyed a short game between a President’s select and a Vice President’s select.

Members and guests then tucked into a buffet and refreshments followed by speeches and a blessing from the minister of St John’s Church, Rev Teri Petersen.

Eddie McEleny, who is the vice president of the club and the social convenor, said: "It was the best opening night we've had in a number of years.

"Rev Teri Petersen, the new minister at St John's Church was very entertaining when she spoke and had people laughing.

"It was great.

"Martin Brennan also came along too which made a difference."

The celebrations lasted until the following evening when a cabaret night got underway.
