CHILDREN enjoyed an out of this world experience at a space themed author talk.
Author and publisher, Keith Charters was on the launch pad providing his own brand of ‘stand-up literature’ at Greenock Central Library.
In the summer which marks 50 years since the moon landings, Keith, who is the author of the Lee’s Adventures series, talked to the children about all things space and writing.
Myra Mains senior library assistant said the 23 youngsters who attended had a 'blast' listening to him.
She said: "This was the launch of the summer reading challenge - it went really well.
"It was exciting to have Keith there.
"Some of the children who attend the library club had prepared some questions for him in advance."
This year's Summer Reading Challenge theme is 'Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure' inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
Myra said: "Over 700 children have signed up across our libraries so we're very happy about that.
"The challenge runs through until the 24th of August so children can still sign up.
"The children aim to read six or more books during the summer holidays - it keeps their interest up and we offer wee incentives.
"We also have an awards ceremony at Port Glasgow Town Hall in September where the children who complete the challenge are invited to come along and are presented with their medals."
To take part in the challenge, children can sign up for the challenge at any local libraries.
By taking part, children will receive stickers, bookmarks, medals and cool toys before receiving their gold medal at the awards ceremony.
