CHILDREN had to be on their best behaviour when a local police officer popped into their summer playscheme.

Constable John Jamieson caused a stir when he met youngsters at the Boglestone Community Centre on Tuesday.

During his visit, the kids enjoyed sitting in the back of the police van and had the chance to ask him questions about his job.

Pamela Lewis, leader in charge at the playscheme, said: "The kids absolutely loved it.

"I've never seen them so excited.

"PC Jamieson was great with the kids - he's the community police officer for the primary schools, so he already knew some of the children.

"He had them sitting in the cell in the back of the van and also put on the lights and sirens for them.

"The kids loved it."

But Pamela said the real highlight for the children was when she and her colleagues were 'locked up'.

She added: "He had four of the leaders in the back of the van.

"The kids though it was hilarious."

Pamela says the summer playscheme, which is for children aged between five and 12, has been a great success so far.

She said: "We have sessions in the morning from 9.30am to 12.30pm and in the afternoon from 1.30pm to 4pm.

"It's a first-come, first-served basis for every session and it's going really well."
