A KIND businessman has donated a new set of tyres to a disabled Greenock woman whose mobility scooter was vandalised.
Stuart Langmuir, who runs carpet and upholstery cleaning business Dream Clean, rode to the rescue of the grandmother, who lives in Wellington Way.
The Tele told last week how the MS sufferer's scooter was targeted by a mindless thug in the early hours of July 17.
The culprit slashed all four tyres, knocked off and smashed the two wing mirrors, and ripped a memory foam seat cushion after unsuccessfully trying to drive away with the buggy.
A neighbour's mobility car was also vandalised with two of its tyres knifed.
Stuart, who has clients in the area and wider Inverclyde, was sickened with what happened and says he felt moved to do something to help.
He told the Tele: "When I read about it at first, I thought it was a wind-up. "It's ridiculous. "I was reading comments about it on Facebook and people were saying the person who did it is 'despicable' and a 'lowlife' and that's right enough, but I felt I couldn't sit back and do nothing. "For all the price of it, this gives the woman her scooter back."
The woman, who does not want to be named, was thrilled with the kind gesture from the Johnstone-based businessman.
She said: "I can't thank him enough.
"After that heartless thing that happened to my scooter and my neighbour's car, it's heartwarming to know there's still some kind people like this out there."
The incident took place at 1.30am on July 17 and was caught on CCTV.
The culprit is described as being in his late teens to early 20s and was wearing shorts, trainers and no top.
He was seen smoking during the vandalism spree on Roxburgh Avenue and Wellington Way.
Another neighbour's garden solar light was also damaged.
If you know who he is call Greenock police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
