A MAN who persistently pestered his ex-partner and made threats of violence turned up at her workplace and kissed her.

Alisdair Douglas then handed the woman a letter on a post-it note warning of 'trouble'.

Douglas, 39, had earlier banged on the windows of the travel agent shop in the Oak Mall, sparking a security alert, but had vanished by the time guards arrived.

He returned later and was caught on CCTV approaching the woman, kissing her on the cheek and handing her the note.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard how he wrote: "You've already moved on.

"See when I find out who it is there will be trouble, after all, I'm going to jail anyway.

"Have a great day hot stuff, without you I'd be an empty shell of a man."

The encounters occurred just days after Douglas had sent the woman a barrage of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger text messages regarding the breakdown of the relationship.

His use of illicit drugs and his 'unpredictable behaviour' led to the split, the court was told.

Procurator fiscal Ziad Ul Hassan said: "The relationship ended on April 7, however, they remained in contact and the accused contacted the complainer repeatedly by text messages.

"There was a threat to self harm and commit suicide through drugs."

The court heard that Douglas told the woman he had a knife and he made a threat towards her mother and about damaging her car tyres.

Mr Ul Hassan said: "The accused attended the complainer's place of work at the Oak Mall and she saw the accused at the front door.

"He began to approach her and stated, 'Are you just going to ignore me?'.

"She asked the accused to leave and locked the shop door and went into a rear office.

"After she began the morning briefing with staff she heard the windows being banged, and the accused shouting.

"The complainer contacted mall security to assist, however, by the time they arrived the accused had left."

Douglas, of Carwood Street, pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of conduct between April 15 and May 5 which caused his ex fear and alarm.

He also turned up at her front door pleading for the relationship to resume and broke down in tears when the woman refused, the court was told.

Defence lawyer Ellen Macdonald said: "He is disappointed he has relapsed into drug misuse.

"Parties agreed to separate and the first contact was made by the complainer.

"His motivation was one of hope for the relationship to get back on track."

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre placed Douglas on an 18-month drug treatment and testing order.

A review hearing is due to take place on August 7.
