PORT Glasgow Bowling Club is set to get a new roof - thanks to a £35,000 grant.

It will be built over the clubhouse and is funded by a grant from FFC Communities Foundation.

The money will be used to replace the flat roof above the function hall, kitchen and changing facilities at the club in Birkmyre Avenue.

Sandra Malcolm, of the club, believes the total refurbishment of the facility will make a huge difference to the people and groups who use it - as well as people living locally.

She said: “This project will provide a real boost to the bowlers and people in this area of Port Glasgow. It is fantastic to be awarded this money, which has come along with a grant from Inverclyde Council. We are really looking forward to carrying out the revamp and making our clubhouse more sustainable for the future."

Local building firm Ecosse Joinery will carry out the works and it is hoped that they will be complete by the end of October.
