A GREENOCK teenager has completed a year of gruelling physical challenges in aid of the sailing charity which helped steer him on the right course.
Shaun Wiseman, 15, challenged himself to raise money for Ocean Youth Trust Scotland who were celebrating their 20 anniversary this year.
Having benefitted from the voyages and support they offer Shaun, who has grown in confidence through his time with them, was keen to help the charity continue to stay afloat.
The Clydeview Academy student who is a keen triathlete, decided to complete 20 running, swimming or cycling races this year and aimed to raise £200 for the sailing charity.
Spurred on by the desire to be the best at the sport he loves, Shaun quickly surpassed his target of 20 races - and completed over 40.
Shaun said: “When I started the challenge I knew it would be difficult as racing every weekend is tiring and takes a lot out of you but I also saw the good side of it all.
“I have been on voyages with OYTS and it feels amazing to be helping to change the lives of young people all over Scotland by helping to give them the experiences I have had.”
Shaun’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by his supporters who have helped to more than double his fundraising target to £420.
Shaun said: “It feels amazing to have completed double the amount of challenges I had set.
"I am pushed on by the thought of one day being the best and doing the sport I love for a living.
“My favourite challenges have been the triathlons and the hardest would have to be the Stirling double triathlon - doing two triathlons back to back is very difficult.
“I didn’t think I would double my fundraising target and I would like to thank everyone ho has supported me including friends, family and coaches.
“I would also like to thank everyone who has donated to this life changing cause of youth work at sea,
“The trust are very grateful for my help and I know that my family are very proud of me for taking on and completing this challenge.”
