A COMMUNITY-MINDED shopkeeper is offering a free delivery service for elderly customers during the coronavirus crisis.

Ami Singh, who owns Costcutter in Captain Street, says he wants to give back to the community.

He is offering free delivery to the over-70s no matter the cost of groceries.

Ami said: "We have been on this street for 20 years and the community has supported us.

"Now during these hard times we want to give something back to help our customers.

"We are selling everything - hand sanitiser, bread, milk and people don't need to spend a lot to get it delivered for free.

"It's just what they need."

The businessman, who also owns the Gate of India takeaway next door, selling up fish n chips, pizza, pakora and kebabs is also launching a special discount scheme for NHS staff and care staff from nursing homes.

They will receive a 10 per cent discount on food.

If food is delivered to nursing homes or the hospital the discount will be automatically applied.

Ami added: "And if people are stuck in the house by self-isolating they can also order by calling the shop on 731678."

Orders can be paid for over the phone and drivers will deliver to customers right across Inverclyde.
