GREENOCK'S new The Range store is set to open its doors next week.

The Tele revealed earlier this year that the store was coming to town to take over the former Homebase premises.

An extensive works programme and refit was carried out on the large West Shaw Street unit.

The big name home, leisure and garden store had been ready to start trading back on Good Friday, but due to COVID-19 bosses had to postpone.

Now the store is ready to go on Friday June 5.

It's understood however that full trading hours will not begin until the following week.

It brings a major employment boost, as bosses at the major retailer say the new Greenock store has created 80 jobs.

The retailer stocks more than 65,000 products across 16 different departments, from homewares and furniture to DIY and art supplies.

While full opening hours have yet to be announced, it is believed they will eventually follow the other 15 Scottish stores and trade seven days a week.

Chris Dawson, founder of The Range, said he was excited to see the transformation in the premises after major investment in the site.

Mr Dawson said: "After an exciting year of store openings, we are really looking forward to growing the business further with many more new stores in 2020.

"It's fantastic that we have been able to transform the former Homebase in Greenock into another national retailer and add yet another branch to our expanding Scottish portfolio."

Bosses say the new store will also have a 'complete Iceland foods offering', as well as a modern cafe and a garden centre.
