DEPARTING superyacht Pi helped the Coastguard amid reports of a paraglider having ditched in the Clyde.
Her captain launched a drone to assist in a search after the luxury vessel had left Greenock's James Watt Dock bound for Gibraltar.
A Coastguard spokesman said: "Pi responded to a 'Pan Pan' message broadcast by Coastguard Operations Centre Belfast after reports of a suspected paraglider in the water.
"Pi assisted Dunoon Coastguard Rescue Team and Largs Lifeboat by launching a drone to help with the search.
"We're very appreciative of their kind help.
"Thankfully the call was a false alarm with good intent and the object in the water was actually a helium balloon."
Coastguards were called to another false alarm at the weekend, when a members of the public reported that two anglers appeared to be in difficulty.
The emergency service responded to a number of 999 calls regarding the men in the water at Langbank on Saturday.
A spokesman said: "On arrival, they found two anglers up to their waist in the water.
"They were not in difficulty.
"This incident was classed as a false alarm with good intent.
"The anglers were given advice on how to prevent this sort of situation in the future."
