A MAN called his ex-partner a 'fat disaster' during a 5am tirade of verbal abuse.

The outburst happened after she'd simply asked Mark Derrick not to put the heartburn medicine Gaviscon into a baby's bottle.

Derrick, 29, loudly swore in telling her: "You're lucky the wean is there or I'd stab you."

His behaviour has been branded 'utterly disgraceful' by a sheriff who is now considering jailing him.

Derrick also told the woman, who managed to record part of his outburst: "You better send me money or your tyres are getting done."

Greenock Sheriff Court heard how Derrick was staying overnight at her home in order to help with the tot.

Prosecutor John Penman said: "The woman took the baby to the accused and asked for his help to feed the child.

"She asked him not to put Gaviscon in the baby's bottle.

"This appears to have been the catalyst and he was immediately aggressive and began shouting and swearing.

"The baby was placed by the woman onto the couch, the accused picked the child up and the witness said she was going to phone the police.

"He gave the baby back and called the woman a 'fat grass'.

"The accused also said, 'See you later ya fat boot'."

Derrick was jailed in 2017 for brandishing a knife and triggering an armed siege by police at his Brae View home after threatening to stab two officers to death.

He stated at the time of the offence that it would be 'just like' the death of hero London terror attack victim PC Keith Palmer at the Houses of Parliament.

Derrick had previously kicked a police officer on the back of his head and spat in the face of his colleague in assaults carried out on Christmas Eve 2016.

Following his latest offence, on Thursday of last week, police arrived at the woman's Greenock home to find her in tears.

Fiscal depute Mr Penman said: "Police attended at the accused's address and he stated, 'I know what this is about, we had an argument this morning'."

Sheriff Joseph Hughes remarked: "That is a quite impactful summary from the Crown."

Derrick, of Brae View, pleaded guilty to repeatedly behaving aggressively towards his ex, shouting and swearing at her and uttering threatening and abusive remarks to her.

Defence lawyer Edward Sweeney moved for bail, telling the court that his client is doing an introduction to cooking course at college and working at a bar in Dumbarton.

Sheriff Hughes told Derrick: "The narration of the facts in this case indicates utterly disgraceful behaviour on your part.

"No-one should be subjected to such behaviour.

"It is only because you have been out of trouble for the last three-and-a-half years that I'm prepared to grant you bail."

Derrick has been placed on a night-time curfew to remain at between 8.30pm and 8am each day and he is barred from approaching or contacting the woman.

The case has been adjourned until October 14.
