A GROUP of determined walkers are taking the right steps to ensure they stay active and healthy during the second lockdown.

Marion Morrison, a lifestyle coach, created a '100 Day Challenge' to keep her mentally and physically motivated during these uncertain times.

The mum-of-three decided to extend the exercise invite on social media, resulting in the creation of a community of almost 100 like-minded people in Inverclyde and beyond taking it on.

The group have forged friendships through posting daily updates on Facebook of their local walking routes and have even had a participant in France join them in their efforts.

Gourockian Marion, 40, told the Tele: "The group was created to keep the body, mind and soul well during the first lockdown.

"It has become a space where people can share their thoughts and feelings and get support.

"It's about physical and mental health and isn't only just about walking.

"It's about forming friendships, giving people something to look forward to and really just reminding them they're not alone."

Individuals who are taking part in the walking challenge are all at different stages, with many members planning on continuing beyond the proposed 100 days.

Inverkip woman Heather Maclaurin, who signed up with neighbour, Cathy Craig, both pictured, said: "The challenge has been great as it gives me something to look forward to each day and has been a great chance to meet new people.

"Before now we've never met yet feel like we know each other so well already.

"It's more than just walking and has given us the opportunity to meet new people in a time where it might be hard to do so."

Local musician Alison McNeill, who plays in band Reely Jiggered, has been finding out about areas in Inverclyde she did not know existed.

She added: "When people share photographs of where they've been it makes you realise just how lucky we are to have so many beautiful places right on our doorstep.

"I've even been foraging for berries too when out and about.

"It's been refreshing and I've really been taking notice of the lovely places around me."
