A GREENOCK woman whose 'dangerously out of control' dog attacked police told the officers afterwards: "It would've been fine if you'd just clapped it."
Tracy Glancy failed to restrain the untethered animal — called 'Paris' — as it repeatedly lunged at the PCs and tried to bite them within the confines of a common close.
Police were called to the address on Newton Street at around 8.30am amid reports of the mixed breed dog 'behaving in an anti-social manner', the sheriff court was told.
In a narration of the facts of the case, it was stated: "The dog was growling and barking and made several attempts to jump at the police witnesses.
"Officers traced the accused in the company of another female.
"The dog continued to behave in an aggressive manner.
"Both the accused and the other witness appeared to be under the influence and were detained for a drugs search.
"Whilst the other female was being searched the accused repeatedly lost control of the the lead, dropping it and holding it loosely.
"The dog continued to growl and jump up and made attempts to bite the police officers on their legs."
The court was also told that the brindle and white-coloured dog tried to bite a female PC on her hand.
Glancy was moments later charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
It was then that she made the comment that the animal would not have attacked if the officers had petted it.
She pleaded guilty through lawyer Aidan Gallagher to having a dangerously out of control dog.
The offence was committed on March 8 last year.
Mr Gallagher told the court that it was 'very much a one-off incident' and that Paris was a 'beloved family pet'.
Sheriff Joseph Hughes fined Glancy, now of Burns Road, £200.
