A GREENOCK man warned he'd need a calculator to work out his jail time if he added to multiple breaches of a non-harassment order has flouted it again, it's alleged.

John Traill, 27, is said to have breached the three-year directive to stay away from his ex-partner just a day after a sheriff deferred sentence on him and allowed bail.

He was placed on the order in 2019 after turning on the woman whilst intoxicated and after buying 65 illicit 'street valium' pills.

Traill has since breached it three times, along with a number of bail orders to stay away from her.

Sheriff Joseph Hughes had deferred sentence on him for an electronic tagging assessment after being told that the father of Traill's new girlfriend didn't want him staying with them.

Enquiries were to be made into the suitability of the Inverclyde Centre, pictured, and he was bailed to there.

Sheriff Hughes told him: "If you don't stay away from this woman you might as well get a calculator out to see how long [in prison] you're going to get."

It is alleged that Traill again breached the non-harassment order on January 28 — the day after the sheriff's warning — by approaching and contacting his ex at the Inverclyde Centre.

He has pleaded not guilty through lawyer Gerry Keenan to the latest charge against him.

Mr Keenan said: "He discovered that another resident at the Inverclyde Centre is none other than his former partner, and Mr Traill did not know that."

Sheriff Michael Higgins remanded Traill in custody.

The case is due to call again on February 16, ahead of a trial scheduled for March 8.
