The 10-year old was learning about the famous poet in class, and with some help from her mum Alyson Donnachie they came up with 'Lock Doon' - a poem about her experiences during the coronavirus pandemic.

The youngster's poem was posted on social media, to lots of positive comments.

She was thrilled when it was shared across Inverclyde and beyond.

The P6 pupil told the Tele: "My teacher Mr Crawford was telling us about Robert Burns and asked us to come up with our own poem.

"I wanted to write about how different things are with the lockdown.

"I usually have lots of activities going on but it has been very different over the last year.

"My mum helped me and we would come up with different bits when we were out walking and she would then put it in her phone so we remembered."

Lucy stays on Stafford Way with her mum, dad James and her six-year-old brother Blake.

Proud Alyson, who works with RBS, says the response to Lucy's poem has boosted her daughter's confidence.

She told the Tele: "I had sent it to one of my friends who asked if they could share it, so it ended up going on social media and people were leaving really lovely comments.

"Both of the kids have been coping really well with home school and just getting stuck in, so Lucy really enjoyed doing this project as she likes writing.

"She's had a really good response from it and we're really pleased with how much people liked it.

"I think it's because it's so relatable to everyone at the moment."
