A PORT Glasgow man smashed up glass tables in a booze-fuelled rage after his partner asked who he was talking to on the phone.

Daniel Batty also hurled a dining chair across a room and into a wall at the home he has shared with the woman for the last six years.

A sheriff heard how dad-of-three Batty, 30, 'kicked off' after she'd noticed that he was on his mobile phone to another female, Greenock Sheriff Court was told.

Prosecutor John Penman said: "The accused swore and shouted that he was on the phone to his sister.

"He struck a glass table with his hand, causing the glass to shatter, before throwing a dining chair at a wall.

"The accused then went outside through the rear door into the garden and lifted a glass topped table into the air and smashed it.

"Police arrived to find the accused under the influence of alcohol."

Four of first offender Batty's neighbours heard the 10.30am disturbance at property on the Port's Bay Street on Sunday morning.

Fiscal depute Mr Penman said: "A question was asked as to who he was speaking to.

"Things kicked off from the there."

Defence lawyer Ellen Macdonald said: "Mr Batty has a full employment history and has never been in trouble before.

"He has lived with his partner without incident for six years and he is deeply ashamed of his behaviour."

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre deferred sentence on Batty for him to be of good behaviour until July 21.
