BUSINESSES across Inverclyde are on course to save over £2m on energy bills thanks to a Scottish Government-funded programme.
Zero Waste Scotland has been offering a free service to small and medium-sized enterprises to help them cut down on energy use and reduce carbon emissions.
The organisation estimates that the advice passed on through the energy efficient business support service could help firms here save £2.5m.
Since 2016, Zero Waste Scotland has helped identify £6.4m of energy savings in Inverclyde by offering advice on heating, lighting and building upgrades.
Marissa Lippiatt of Zero Waste Scotland says if all Inverclyde businesses take action they could reduce their carbon output by 9,000 tonnes.
She added: "It's pleasing to see so many businesses in Inverclyde deciding to take action to reduce their energy use."
Owners of SMEs across Inverclyde can apply for an interest-free Scottish Government loan of between £1,000 to £100,000 to help with improvements by visiting www.energy.zerowastescotland.org.uk or calling 0808 808 2268.
