A MAN who was rushed to hospital yesterday after being stopped by police on a Greenock street has died.
The circumstances of the incident have been passed to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.
The man took unwell after he was approached by officers on the town's Bank Street.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said today: "Around 12.10pm yesterday a man took unwell whilst engaged with officers on Bank Street, Greenock.
"He was taken by ambulance to Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock where he later died.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"As is protocol, a report has been submitted to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC)."
