A FURIOUS disabled woman has hit out at road operators for leaving Greenock roads in a 'disgraceful' state.

Lesley Roberts contacted the Tele to complain about craters on the A8, saying they are dangerous and causing damage to vehicles.

She highlighted the crumbling junction right outside Greenock police station, PICTURED, saying it is in a completely unacceptable condition.

Ms Roberts says motorists will be faced with hefty repair bills due to damage caused by the local network.

She has previously highlighted concerns about other stretches of the trunk road, including the A8 at Woodhall and Langbank, PICTURED.

Lesley said: "The roads that we drive on are a disgrace.

"Why can't they be properly fixed - have we to continually pick up the never-ending garage repairs bills just because no one cares about health and safety?

"Whilst we all now there are many restrictions in place just now, it seems health and safety is simply being ignored, despite constant complaints."

The Greenockian says maintenance workers were seen at the crater covered Rue End Street junction recently but that it quickly degraded again after a patch-up.

Lesley said: ""I watched last week as a van stopped and out came two workers and threw some stones in before taking off again.

"One wonders why they bother because the stones were out within a few hours and causing the surface to be even more dangerous with cars skidding on them.

As the A8 is a trunk road it is the responsibility of Transport Scotland.

When the Telegraph contacted the Scottish Government agency they referred us to operators Amey, who are responsible for the upkeep of the road.

We contacted Amey but they had failed to provide a response as we went to press.
