A CONVICTED knife thug who stabbed a police officer in a 'horrible' attack has been caught again with a blade — whilst in possession of hundreds of pounds worth of cocaine.

Ross Gisbey, 24, had a lock-back knife concealed down the front of his underwear after police stopped him and fellow blade-carrying co-accused Andrew Sutherland, 25.

The pair were in a grey-coloured Audi car when suspicious officers in an unmarked vehicle followed them at 1am up a dead end road in Greenock.

Prosecutor Claire Rowan told the sheriff court: "On stopping, the vehicle was now blocking a single track road.

"Officers alighted from their vehicle and saw that people within the Audi appeared to be shifting items around.

"The officers warned them that they were being detained for drug search."

Cocaine with a street value of £350 was recovered from the car on Berryyards Road, near Lynedoch Street, on October 7 last year, the court was told.

Sutherland's knife was recovered from the waistband of his trousers.

Fiscal depute Ms Rowan said: "At around 3am Ross Gisbey was subject to a full search in Greenock police office and a lock-back style knife was concealed within the front of his underwear."

The Telegraph told in 2018 how Gisbey pulled a blade on a PC before lunging towards him and lashing out in a violent rage, injuring the officer's left arm.

He had to be blasted twice with incapacitant spray after he'd repeatedly refused to drop a lock-back knife.

Gisbey's lawyer David Tod had said of that offence: "Mr Gisbey accepts that this was a horrible incident in which to become involved."

Sheriff Joseph Hughes has deferred sentence on Gisbey and Sutherland regarding current matters, so that background reports can be compiled.

The case is due to call again on March 10.
