THE sister of Greenock house fire victim Gordon Percy today thanked the Tele's 'amazing' readers for their messages of support as his fight for life continues following last weekend's horrific blaze.

Caroline Campbell said she has been 'blown away' by the good wishes expressed by people for her brother.

But 58-year-old Gordon's condition remains critical six days after he was rescued by firefighters and rushed to hospital.

Caroline told how he is now also fighting an infection as he remains at Glasgow Royal Infirmary with horrendous third and fourth-degree burns.

She said: "The worry is constant.

"The hospital has told me that it will be a long road for Gordon, if he makes it at all.

"He's on antibiotics now as well for an infection, and infections are never a good thing, especially for someone in his condition."

Caroline, 57, added: "He's not any better.

"They took him off the ventilator but had to put him back on it very quickly.

"His blood pressure keeps dropping."

Partially-sighted Gordon had become increasingly dependant on a white stick in recent months.

The accidental blaze at his Plover Lane home last Sunday ripped through the upper floor of the property.

It started within a walk-in wardrobe where he kept his computer.

Caroline — who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer — said: "I'm tired and not sleeping very well.

"It's hard because I can't be there at the hospital.

"But I just want to say that it has been amazing the amount of people who have contacted me through the Tele with good wishes and messages of support.

"They have been a comfort to us as a family and we are truly grateful.

"All we can do is take it one day at a time."
